Values

Values are the things in life that are most important to us. They are created from the beliefs that we hold deep within us. They then become the values that act like our own internal moral compass. They shape our actions, our feelings and behaviours, and determine what we believe to be right and wrong.

So, you've just done your Personal Values assessment and now you've read your profile. As they are so important to our day to day life, it's always useful to understand them more.

So where do they come from? Well, values can be developed based upon our childhood, the environment that we have been brought up in and our own personal experiences and what's really fascinating is, that they are drive how we behave, day in and day out.

An example would be, some people value health, while some value wealth, some may value working hard while some may value playing hard. Ultimately, different people value different things, and that's what makes us all unique.

By understanding our values it can really benefit our lives and careers. So understanding your own values will help you to manage situations effectively both in your personal and work life.
For instance, when your values are aligned with someone elses, relationships can feel quite harmonious, whereas when they differ from what others may value, conflicts can sometimes arise.
And often people don't realise that the conflict has probably been driven from a fundamental difference in values.

So now that you have an awareness of Personal Values, it is important to be able to assess how often you are aligned with them.

As coaching is all about asking questions to raise self-awareness, thinking differently by looking at things from a different perspective and putting new behaviours into practice to create long term change. It is recommended that throughout this module, you make commitments to try new things and to support others who may be showing signs of People Pleasing.
